High Standards
Pupils are taught in their form groups when they first
arrive at the school to provide a secure and stable start
to their time with us. As children move up the school,
we introduce setting because we believe that children learn
better when grouped with others of similar ability. Homework
is a vital part of the first class education we provide.
It is set for all pupils and is recorded in a diary, enabling
parents to offer appropriate support and encouragement.
Pupils whose work, behaviour or effort
is particularly notable are awarded credits. Pupils also
receive special certificates for high levels of effort in
their subjects and special letters from the Headteacher
are sent home to recognise particularly good work.
Your child will have the opportunity
to study a broad and exciting range of subjects at Yateley
As pupils progress through the school an increasing
amount of choice and flexibility is available.

Personal and Social Education
As well as examination subjects all pupils follow courses
in Personal and Social Education and in Citizenship.
Through these courses our pupils learn
the importance of social and moral values. The topics covered
include:- health and personal relationships; first aid;
information about drugs and alcohol; personal safety; study
skills, careers guidance, financial and citizenship information.
Special Features
Pupils may study Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate
subjects. We are one of the few state schools to offer
Latin. Our option system allows pupils to study both History
and Geography, two performing arts subjects and a range
of technology and vocational subjects.
Yateley offers a large range of activities
at lunch time and after school. There is also an extensive
programme of visits and trips.
Yateley’s reputation for excellence in
Music, Dance and Drama led to the award of Specialist Performing
Arts Status in 2002. This has meant that we have been able
to increase opportunities for our students by offering the
chance to work with specialist artists, as well as the clubs,
concerts and performances available during the year.
Sport
All pupils have the opportunity to take part in sports
activities.
Our record on the sports field is formidable
with Yateley pupils gaining success at district, county,
national and international levels. Our outstanding sports
facilities, swimming pool and playing fields provide a first
class environment in which to nurture individual potential.
International Links
Yateley pupils have the chance to travel abroad on school
organised visits from Year 7 onwards. The school has exchanged
visits with France
and USA and links
exist with Kenya
and Peru.
Each year trips take place to destinations
such as the South of France for water sports, the Alps for
Skiing, the Netherlands for Geography, Berlin and Eastern
Europe for History, Paris, Spain and Italy for languages
and culture.
Yateley is a caring School
Yateley is a happy school with considerate, motivated
and well behaved pupils. Before your child joins this school
in Year 7 we will have made sure that he or she has had
several opportunities to visit us. We have close links
with our local primary and junior schools so that we can
ensure every child makes a trouble-free start to their secondary
education.
When children first come to the school
they are placed in the care of a form tutor whose job it
is to look after their welfare and to help them achieve
their best. As pupils progress through the school, the
form tutor moves with them so that a relationship of real
trust and understanding can be built up.
The work of the tutor is coordinated by
the Head of Year, who is responsible for dealing with any
problems or concerns. We will also keep you informed of
your child’s progress through regular consultation evenings
and written reports. Parents are always welcome to contact
the headteacher directly if there are particular concerns.
Regular assemblies and tutor periods help
to develop a sense of community and a shared purpose. The
moral and spiritual welfare of our pupils is of great importance
to us and we work hard to make Yateley School a secure,
caring and stimulating place in which to learn.
Peace of mind
We have a fully equipped sick bay and a qualified first
aider who takes care of medical problems. Our school refectory
provides a large choice of nutritious food at lunch times.
We also run special clubs for younger pupils before and
after school so that parents can leave their children in
safe hands for the whole day.
We believe that education is a most precious
gift. We strive to be at the forefront of technology in
order to equip the citizens of tomorrow with the skills
and expertise they will need to make their way in a rapidly
changing world. At the same time we hold to the common
sense values of traditional education
We are an outward looking school and our
pupils are taught to see themselves as a part of a wider
community. This is accomplished through work experience,
service to the community, charity fund-raising and an impressive
programme of educational visits.
Parental involvement is a vital factor
in our success
We see the education of your child as a partnership
and we count on your support. In return you may depend
on Yateley School to do its upmost to provide an education
of the highest standard. We keep parents informed through
a weekly bulletin and regular information and consultation
evenings. As a member of our PTA you will have the opportunity
to take an active role in the education of your child, to
help raise funds and to participate in a range of social
activities.
